Tracks in White Snow, Where do they Go?
65
TRACKS IN WHITE SNOW
TRACKS IN WHITE SNOW
FOREST ABOVE, FOREST BELOW
I'M CURIOUS TO KNOW
WHERE THEY MAY GO
PERHAPS QUEEN ANNES LACE
WITH HER DELICATE GRACE
CAN PROVIDE ME A TRACE
OH MY, THAT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE THE CASE
TRACKS IN WHITE SNOW
ALL IN A ROW
BRIGHT FOREST AGLOW
PLEASE TELL ME SO
WHERE DO THEY GO
YO, YELLOW TOMATO BERRY
WITH SNOWFLAKES LOOKING CHERRY
CAN YOU ANSWER MY QUERY
"NO NOT I," SHE SAID, "MY DEARY!"
TRACKS IN WHITE SNOW
TREES HIGH AND LOW
I WANT TO SAY HELLO
TO WHOEVER MADE THESE FOOTPRINTS THAT SHOW
I ASKED THE BEECH LEAVES
IF THEY WOULD BE
SO KIND TO TELL ME
BUT THEY HADN'T THE KEY
TO UNLOCK THE MYSTERY
TRACKS IN WHITE SNOW
TRACKS MADE BY TOES
WHO'S THE MYSTERY BRO
MAKING TRACKS IN A ROW
THE FOREST LED ME TO NATIVE ASTER
NATURE, SHE HAS MASTERED
THE FROST ON THE GROUND IS NOT HER DISASTER
SHE SAID, "SORRY, I DON'T HAVE THE ANSWER!"
TRACKS IN WHITE SNOW
I'VE SEARCHED HIGH AND LOW
AND STILL DON'T KNOW
MY SENSE OF WONDER GROWS AND GROWS
I ASKED THE LADY IN WHITE, WITH LONG HAIR
AND THE LONG EARED BUNNY, WITH A STARE
AT LEAST THE HEART OF THE FOREST IS THERE
HE SHOWED ME THE VANILLA WAFFLE CONE THAT'S RARE
OH MY, THIS HAS BECOME A RECURRENT AFFAIR
TRACKS IN WHITE SNOW
WHITE FLURRY AFLOW
THE FOREST IS AGLOW
WITH MORE TRACKS IN WHITE SNOW
THE PINE CONE DREW ME NEAR
THEN THE CEDAR BERRIES, OH DEAR
LAST AUTUMNS GOLDEN ROD SUDDENLY APPEARED
YET THE ANSWER TO MY QUEST WAS NOT HERE
TRACKS IN WHITE SNOW
TRACKS IN WHITE SNOW
FOREST ABOVE, FOREST BELOW
I'M CURIOUS TO KNOW
WHO MADE YOU BE SO
SUDDENLY A TREE SPIRIT IN SIGHT
RESEMBLING AN ANGLE SO BRIGHT
SHE SAID, "ASK ONE MORE TIME TO RESOLVE YOUR PLIGHT
WHO MADE THE TRACKS IN THE SNOW SO WHITE!"
SO I DID AS SHE PLEASED
AND AGAIN I ASKED THEE
WHERE THE TRACKS IN WHITE SNOW DO LEAD
FINALLY, THE ANSWER I COULD NOT BELIEVE
TWO ANIMALS, WHO WERE THE ONES FOLLOWING ME
OH, HOW BEAUTIFUL AN ANIMAL CAN BE
YOU'LL KNOW WHEN YOU SET YOUR EYES UPON THESE
ESPECIALLY WHEN I MANIPULATE THE PHOTOGRAPHY
OF MY VERY OWN PETS NAMED PATCHY AND KHAKI
I THANKED THE ANGLE THAT SHARED
FOR LEADING ME TO BE AWARE
THE NEXT TIME I HAVE A CARE
GO STRAIGHT TO THE ALL KNOWING UP THERE

...you are truly an artist with the camera - and often I have wondered who or what made those tracks in the snow - and where they came from and where they might lead ...... again I have been enchanted by another world class photographic essay of yours - and this one like the last is a treasure to keep - and your poetic insight here only enhances the experience that much more ....
Lovely poem and lovely cats too!
It reminds me of a true story the children read in class about some footprints in the snow belonging to some mysterious creature.
Thanks for sharing and God bless.
I love this poem. It reminded me of a similiar experience in Germany. Except my journey led me to an annoyed boar. I love the pictures as well. Thank you for sharing.
.....well I get a lot of this where I live by Lake Erie in Ontario, Canada (actually not too far from you) but this hub is a definitive representation of art in photography and that is why I keep coming back ......
...just checking in with my favorite photographer - hope you are warm and safe and happy and healthy - and I can't wait to see your next photo exhibit!
...well that was yesterday - and this is today - lol - I am just checking in with you again as your Number one fan of course and wishing you well - life on this side of Lake Erie is much like where you live I suppose - the dead of the winter - but I still these photographs and the cats too - so artfully done and with such great imagination - and on the technical side (which I am not) I think the lighting in your photography is very well done!
This is so beautiful. I want you to know that my dream is touch the snow in person. You have stunning pictures and make my eyes can't blink only for a while. I liked it. Thanks for writing this. Vote up. Have a good day!

Fossillady-This was such a magical journey of sights and sounds and mysteries. I couldn't wait to find out who made the tracks. You have beautiful cats and they seem to like the lime light. I really appreciate your artistry and creativity on this hub. Beautiful photography too. Thanks for a really enjoyable read:)
....I'm so glad and very tickled that you are receiving the recognition you so richly deserve because this is the kind of work you see in the National Geographic!
More awesome photography...and what amazing poetry!!! I'm so glad our paths crossed...your hubs are outstanding...something we learners can aim for!!?
Wow! I really enjoyed your words, they kept me so interested and your photographs are amazing! I specially love the ones of the cats! They seem like perfect models and you seem to know how to capture their presence just right. I also loved the photographs with the berries, both the blue and the yellow!
...may the tracks in your snow always lead to my heart and my mind .....and I am so glad that you have been able to meet some of these very interesting people Kathi.
This is a beautiful winter poem. The words are perfectly complemented by your photographs. The tracks you've made are heavenly, fossillady.
Another wonderful creation. I love the cats too. Thanks for the beauty and the eye you have for beauty.
